Last month Canadian Imams and Muslim Leaders issued a public statement titled "Call to Action to Eradicate Domestic Violence" which was endorsed by over 40 Muslim organizations and a number of community leaders.
As a follow up to this statement there will be a launch of White Ribbon Campaign this Saturday Dec 10 at 6pm at IIT (Islamic Institute of Toronto at 1630 Neilson Road, Scarborough, ON M1X 1S3).
White Ribbon Campaign is the largest effort in the world of men working to end violence against women. Men support the campaign by making a personal pledge to 'never commit, condone, or remain silent about violence against women and girls' and to symbolize the pledge by wearing a white ribbon. The campaign challenges everyone to speak out, and think about their own beliefs, language and actions and aims to educate the community on this serious issue.
We have targeted the period from Dec 9 - 25 for the initial campaign run culminating in White Ribbon Days at the Revival of Islamic Spirit conference. Then in the new year, the campaign will move forward with targeted activities across Canada to address the core issue.
